[edited version of Doctor for the Mafia] Ila Archer was a doctor working at one of the best hospitals in New York. She loses her license and ability to practice due to, as punishment, taking full responsibility for the 'walking patient' incident. After a full month, Ila runs into the 'walking patient'. Knowing her situation caused by his actions, he offers a once in a lifetime opportunity. ----- "Look, you're a doctor-" He started. "Was." I corrected. "I was a doctor." "You can still be," he said, running his fingers through his dark hair. "Look, you can work for us, and I'll pay triple the amount you were earning at that lousy hospital." "Us?' I asked. Who was he? How exactly does he plan on paying me triple? He grabbed my wrist and pulled me inwards. My face inches away from his chest. With his free hand, he was gently tucking my hair behind my ear. His breath tickled my ear as he whispered two words that sent shivers down my back. "The Mafia."

CURRENTLY EDITING SOME CHAPTERS, SO APOLOGIES IF ANYTHING DOESNT QUITE ADD UP YET! (You may notice a few inconsistencies while I work on it, but everything will be fixed once the edits are complete. Thank you for your patience!) She wanted to see the world. Instead, she became a prisoner of the man who rules the shadows. He kidnapped her because he thought she knew too much. She knew nothing. Now she has two choices: work for the man who stole her freedom - or die. -- "I can see it, you know," he continues, his voice as smooth and dangerous as the edge of a blade. "The fear you're trying so hard to hide. The way your hands tremble ever so slightly, the way your breath catches in your throat when I'm close like this." My hands instinctively curl into fists at my sides, nails digging into my palms as I struggle to maintain control. He tilts his head, studying me like a predator sizing up its prey, his proximity suffocating. "You should be scared," he says, the words laced with an unsettling certainty. "Because when I'm done with you, there won't be anything left of that defiance you're so proud of." A shiver runs down my spine. "I've faced worse than you," I manage to grit out, though my voice is barely above a whisper. "And I'm still standing." His lips curve into a sinister smile, a glint of something dark and twisted flashing in his eyes. "We'll see how long that lasts." "Let's go." "No." --
