Transman Mark Brent's journey to recovery from a near-fatal bullet wound leads him to the one day in his life that he didn't have the power to stop. He finds himself working with Megan Price who, just like him, is a Keeper Agent. And just like him, she prefers to work alone. Sparks fly. -- "Where is 'here?'" "Here is where you will learn more of what you're capable of," he simply stated. "Now go on... get up." I slowly raised myself to a sitting position, the air beneath me transitioning into a simple wooden chair. I had conjured the image in my mind into something solid because it was the most logical thing to sit on. I had an inkling of what was happening to me because this place was starting to feel familiar. "I've... been here before, haven't I?" I asked, taking a good look at my surroundings. We were in a forest clearing, one that I always imagine myself to be in when I'm meditating. Soft light was filtering through the leaves of the trees around us. 'Komorebi' as the Japanese would say to describe it. The man laughed mirthfully, like someone who knew that I was steps ahead before he could even begin to explain what was really happening to me. "You're a sharp one, aren't you? I'm Luc," he said, extending his hand. I shook it, welcoming the touch of another human being. "Lucian," I nodded. "Indig- Aiofe's friend. Where in the world are you right now?" "Back home. Sorry to be cryptic. I'm kind of -" "A recluse. I understand. Aiofe mentioned that in her letter. She said that you're more reclusive than I am." He smiled. I smiled. We just looked at each other and I got it: Luc was to be my Mentor and he was going to give me a good challenge. A/N: Mature content. Alex thought he had it all then he got a shot of cold water. Years later he is finally getting his life to where he wants it to be. All except one little complication. So what does he do when he starts to really care for that complication. Letting go might mean someone might die. But it wasn't his fight. No matter the trouble he just can't let go. ====== Excerpt Alex heard a thump then a whimper. He scanned the area around him and then looked down the alley that was close by. He searched the darkness and saw leaning against the brick wall a slumped over figure. he debated then started to walk on not sure it was worth the risk, but the figure stopped groaned and fell. Alex sighed. There was no way he'd be able to walk away now. He went over and carefully rolled the figure over and was surprised to see it was a very young man. Alex couldn't see any wounds but when he searched, he found a large bruise on his side that had broken open and gotten infected. "Looks like you got the raw end of a beating. Better get you to a hospital." a hand shot out and grabbed his wrist. "NO! no hospital. just leave me alone." "No hospital huh? your wound is infected. if you leave it, it could kill you." "I'll be fine." he said then promptly passed out. Alex snorted and gathered the boy up and stood.
