In a kingdom where humans are unknowingly ruled by a family of vampires, a human by the name of Kankri Vantas finds himself eligible to attend a ball organized by the king to familiarize himself with the next generation.
This is the story of how one human figured out their secret, and how knowing that truth would change the course of his life forever.
(Contrary to the cover photo, this is set in a Humanstuck AU. The kingdom is modern-day, which is a little hard to comprehend, but try and roll with it! TuT )

Land or Water?
Sollux was by the ocean, sitting on the dock one day. He doesn't really have the greatest life on land, he was fired from his job, he needed money to pay rent for his apartment, he didn't have many friends, and things just didn't work out for him anymore. As he gets up to leave from the dock, he falls into the ocean, but then he's saved by some mystery person and when he finds out it was a merman who saved him, he becomes great friends with him and finds out that his name is Eridan. But then, Eridan's father disapproves of their friendship and does something horrible. Sollux then finds Eridan with tons of cuts and bruises all over him, on the beach and helps him out. He does all of this while keeping him secret from everyone else except for his best friend, Karkat. After some time, he realizes that he can't stay on land if he wants to keep Eridan safe. Sollux will have to choose whether to stay on land and look for a different way to help him, or to become a merman himself and live in the water for the rest of his life.
