Aileen loved Andreas long before the world knew his name.

Inseparable since childhood, it was only natural when romance blossomed between them. Aileen knew him better than anyone else... or so she thought. When Andreas discovers that he is one of the last remaining members of the Aurelio family-- a family that has ruled the distant country of Ceaterra for centuries-- he disappears and leaves Aileen confused and heartbroken.

Already devastated, tragedy strikes again in the form of her mother's murder, and Aileen's world comes crashing down. Her father is convinced Andreas is the one who killed her mother. Now, she feels nothing but hatred for the person she used to love.

When two women approach Aileen and offer her an opportunity to assassinate Andreas, Aileen sees no other option. She is determined to avenge her mother's death and stop Andreas from coming to power. But Aileen quickly realizes that there is a much bigger plot at work than her plan for revenge, and the boy that she once knew may be a piece in a game that neither one of them agreed to play.
