The town had really just waited for Mr Tatch to die. He was extremely old, and very rich, but had no friends, so his departure would not result in too much sadness after all his properties had been scattered among the greedy citizens of Montis. But things did not turn out as they had hoped, because Mr Tach did not die. He just vanished.
The awkward police force of Montis found themselves struggling with a case they could not understand. It seemed to them that the old man had just disappeared out of thin air!
Meanwhile, an unimportant girl from the town, called Emmy, happens to start looking into the peculiar case, and gets pulled into the very depths of Tach's disappearance, which draws her closer and closer to the old cellar beneath the rich man's magnificent mansion.
