"Stop!" His voice interrupts the girls. "Are you insane, going with her? She's not good enough to be your girlfriend." Lily spits the word 'girlfriend' as if it is poison. His hands mold into fists at his side, hinting at his anger. "She's not just my girlfriend, she's my ride or die. Now, don't you ever talk to her or about her like that again or you'll be hearing from me." He shoots at her, his voice holding muted rage. A smile I can't contain appears on my face as we watch her walk away in defeat. *** Lyla Mason is labeled as weird. She avoids human interaction, and never answers any questions asked about her personal life. She is referred to as an antisocial, a freak, a weirdo. Everybody has secrets, though nobody knows hers because nobody knows her. But outside the school, she's a different person. She's not the weirdo everyone believes she is. She's also not the goody goody her teachers think she is. When Lyla catches the attention of the school's notorious bad boy, will she be able to keep her secrets, or will they all come spilling out? "You should care, Dylan. You would still be living in the back of a car, stealing from Seven Eleven! Is that what you want?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The "Four Musketeers." That's what they called them. If they weren't all together they were two on two. And they give zero fucks about life. The Adopted one The Bad boy The Player The Best friend Dylan is like most troubled girls. She doesn't care about her grades, she skips school, hangs with the wrong crowds, and hates her parents. But of course there's a reason for all of this. Dylan is adopted. Dylan has always struggled with being adopted and she tends to fight everything in life. Many bad memories cause her to be the way she is. She desperately wants to forget her past, including some bad things she experienced, but the memories stay stuck in her mind. Dylan has three best friends who help her get by. The only three people she 100% trust and doesn't like to. They all have their own problems and lies they tell, but they help each other through it all. Especially her boyfriend Vince, who would do absolutely anything for her. He would die a thousand times over before anyone hurt Dylan. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Dylan's not just my whole life, she makes my life whole. Some days she's the only reason I get out of bed. Without her in my life there is no point in living. She's like the air I breathe. Without her I can't live. She's my best friend and I will love her to the day I die." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This summer Dylan gets the opportunity to do what every guidance counselor has claimed she's always wanted to do . . . split up her family. Will she realize splitting up her family won't help anything? Or will she just not care? After all she was abandoned once.
