3. to continue to have a certain quality or fulfill a certain role, the same way I would always want to be there for him, no matter what.

4. to be left over after others or other parts have been completed, used, or dealt with, just as my lover for him always would.

Because after all the time we spent, all the hurt, all the struggles, all the defeats we had to face - one thing remained. One thing always remained, and no matter how many times I tried to ignore it, there was no denying it. My love for him remained throughout it all, and I couldn't bear the thought of him not knowing this.
