Mary Tremaine, Queen of the Eastern Kingdom, was torn from her life at the age of four after her parents are assassinated and her kingdom is forsaken. As her home was overcome with war she was sent to a small nameless town, if you could even call it that, where she was raised in an orphanage run by nuns. She remembers nothing of her parents or her old life, the few memories she had from when she was too young to understand that the fairytales her mother told were all but just stories. It isn't until the war in the east is long over and she turns eighteen that her royal status is revealed to her and she must make decisions on behalf of an entire people she doesn't know.
Not only is Mary the Queen of the East, but she is also quite possibly the most powerful witch of all time. The women who raised her did all they could to help her control her power, but they knew nothing of how to help the small girl whose magic practically seeped from her skin.
As she is thrust into the world of royalty and creatures she thought to myths she must face the wrath of the all powerful King, a lycan-vampire hybrid, and the most all powerful man alive. Despite his temperament and the rumors surrounding his malevolence she is drawn to his chocolate eyes that seemed to be laced with gold. She was timid and innocent, completely puzzled by his contrasting good nobility and easily sparked temper. The shielded girl knew nothing of mates, but she did know that every time she locked eyes with The Great King, the world seemed to stop moving all together. She may be the ruler of the East, but he was the King of, quite literally, everything.
She may technically be a Queen, but she knows nothing of royalty.
