The Destroyer's Heart

Two men stumbled along a rocky path until it stopped abruptly. They shared enough similarities in their appearance to be family but did not show warmth to suggest they were proud of it. They both glanced about the land around them nervously as they waited for a promise. Gathering his courage one man called out into the wind and told it of their intentions. A booming laugh sounded in their ears and taunted them for their ignorance.

"Save your lies for those who care to listen," Taeta told them before slitting both their throats before they could even acknowledge her words.

Only a day earlier a king named Helor promised them something in return for what he wanted the most, information about the person responsible for the pain inflicted upon his youngest son. Thomas used to be a secret that the king and the queen kept buried inside their hearts until he was stolen from them. He was not found until years later, mutilated and left for the commoners to find in the heart of their village. Without most of his tongue and only bloody stumps remaining where he once had fingers, he was unable to speak or write of what he endured and who inflicted it upon him. Swayed by the money waved in front of their faces, people from far and wide hunted for answers that no one could seem to find. But the kingdom was faced with a much darker secret that had the ability to destroy them all, and she was not going to bow.
