I take a place next to the window sill and look out at all the kids playing. "Mama, why can't I go out and play like everyone else?"
Mama places a sandwich next to me and takes a seat, also looking outside. "Annaliese, baby, it's not that you can't go outside. Its safer for you and the other kids this way. I've told you this over and over." She's now turned and facing me. I do the same.
"I know, but I just want to play." I pout.
"I understand that baby girl, but remember last week! You harmed our future Alpha!" Tears prickle my eyes at the reminder. "Oh, sweetheart." She coos and pulls me onto her lap. I automatically nudge my head into her chest.
"I didn't mean to mama. He just came towards me. I only did what everyone tells me to do; fight back." Sobs erupt from my mouth and I feel snot run out my nose.
"I know, baby. I know. It's not your fault. Just," she pulls me away so that her green eyes meet my hazel ones, "to keep you and everyone in our village safe...Alpha Car thinks it's best for you to stay indoors from now on." Her eyes hold many emotions.
I want to say a lot now, but my mouth utters nothing. I nod. She kisses my head and gets up. "Thank you, baby girl. I'll be back, I have to attend a meeting. Mary will accompany you." She walks over to the door, grabbing her bag. "I love you."
I don't answer and continue to gaze outside. She sighs and walks out. In the reflection of the window, I see Mary frown towards the door as a few tears trickle down her rosy cheeks.

I wish I had replied to mama. I wish I had listened in on their conversation. I wish I had asked Mary why she was crying. Maybe things could've ended differently and I wouldn't be wishing all these empty wishes.

After a few silent minutes, our cell door opens slowly. From the ball of light from the ceiling, the little girl in the doorway is illuminated. She is completely covered in blood and doesn't move. Then she opens her eyes and carefully walks towards us. And despite everything, my first impulse is to crawl backwards, away from the unnatural calm radiating from her. ------------- After reading yet another great older brothers/younger sister story, where the family gets reunited after years of separation, the sister keeps the secret that she was abused and assaulted all along, and the brothers conceal their work in the mafia, I decided to give it also a try. The output of my story was initially to turn this around with openness and unconditional support and the torture should happen right in front of their very eyes. Because no story is complete without the (un)necessary bloodshed, action, humour and, of course, a bad guy. And who knows, to throw everything completely upside down, the main character may not survive. I won't write warnings above each chapter, because most of them contain violence, blood, torture, etc. Constructive criticism is welcome. Ow, and English is not my first, second or third language.
