En el Antiguo Egipto, encontramos a la reina-faraón Hatshepsut, que gobernó entre el 1479 a.C. y el 1457 a.C. Pertenecía a la dinastía XVIII. Fue la mujer que más años ostentó el trono de Egipto. Se presentaba con atributos masculinos en símbolo de poder (como una barba postiza, símbolo del poder del faraón, o vestimentas de varón) y en sus representaciones pictóricas y escultóricas se la puede ver precisamente ostentando estos atributos, pues simbolizaba el poder divino del Faraón. Ella gobernó bajo el nombre de Maatkara Hatshepsut (Maat es la diosa de la Justicia en la mitología del Antiguo Egipto). Pero el nombre por el que se la conoce hoy, Hatshepsut." Finalmente la reina masculinizó su nombre parcial o totalmente. Es curiosa esta tendencia de la reina a la masculinización o la dualidad femenino-masculina, pero de este modo adoptó el cargo de Faraón en toda su extensión y fue aceptada por el pueblo como Faraón, no como reina. Se convirtió en la tercera y más poderosa reina-faraón de la historia egipcia. Inteligente, estratega, audaz e imponente.
