Mackenzie Ziegler is a perfectly happy woman, living in sunny Los Angeles with her best friend Lauren Orlando. Her singing career is just getting started, and she's being offered gigs that artists twice her age haven't had the chance to do yet. Life for her? Well it's going great... until the day where everything comes crashing down.

Mackenzie gets diagnosed with Lupus, a disease that attacks her kidneys. Too scared to reach out to anyone, she keeps everything about her diagnosis locked away inside of her and tries her hardest not to tell anyone. When she arrives home to her apartment the day she's been diagnosed, she's so ill and so afraid she can't even open her own front door.
