Nelly Rodriguez is sixteen years old and has been through things that no one should. After the death of her father -- which she shares a remarkable resemblance to -- her life slowly fell apart. Her siblings avoided her, her mother is an over working alcoholic, her only friends are a pair of crazy twins, and she has been constantly bullied for as long as she can remember. Her goal in life is to simply survive until she can escape, but even that seems more difficult now. However, on the first day of her sophomore year, three students arrive who basically tilt the scale at school.

Trace Knight has a bad past. His mother left him when he was young and his father is currently in a coma, along with his aunt and uncle. He lives with his two cousins, Bella and Patryx, and tends to stick with them or himself. When a change occurs in his father's state, he is forced to move him to another hospital and since he doesn't want to be too far, he follows. His first day of his new school, he notices some things he doesn't like. For example the way the whole school targets an innocent brunette who unwittingly stole his attention and sparked a new desire to protect.

Join these two lost souls as they try to find themselves and hopefully heal their broken spirits and hearts. This is a story of the power of friendship, love and family. A story of the true meaning of happiness.
