In a world where slaves were never freed, the wealthy and poor were divided up into two groups by society. The poor worked to keep whatever little bit they had left that the wealthy hadn't yet stolen. If they couldn't pay off their debts, every member of the family was sold off into slavery. Some families just gave up, left their homes, and moved into the street to become beggars. Alayna Barnett is one survivor of many that has determined to avoid slavery at all costs. At least, that's until she was thrown into a world that she's dreaded since before she can remember.
