In the criminal justice system sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad know as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. 

In comes our new ADA Rafael Barba helping to prosecute a case where a famous author is raped by a TV host. Along with him comes our newest detective from Richmond, VA. With time she also meets another detective named Dominick "Sonny" Carisi. The cases are hard, the victims need justice, and the SVU squad isn't ready for what's to come. Melanie Delaney is the new girl from a rual county and this is her story.
