The Discovery is experiencing some issues with the spore drive. When Doctor Culber suggests that Lieutenant Stamets should get some rest, Captain Lorca decides to set a course to the nearest peaceful planet in order to allow his crew to enjoy a short vacation. But when the natives turn out to be Klingons supporters, the holiday becomes a nightmare for the crew stranded on the planet.
(This story is set before the events of the mid-season finale)

Now, after centuries of terraforming, a rejuvenated Earth was ready for habitation. A team of Miorpean researchers were tasked with testing the environment of this newly reclaimed world. One member of the team, Mira, made a stunning discovery. Somehow, humans had survived and were thriving in large communal settlements. Mira would come to believe that humans respected the planet and vowed to protect them from the fate the befell their ancestors. A stunning revelation about the origins of these humans would bring her into an intense conflict with a code of ethics and beliefs that has guided the course of her ancestral people since the beginning of time. Tom threw in, as the tone of Chakotay's voice suggested the question had hit a little too close to home. Tom paused momentarily, mulling over what to say next or whether to keep his mouth shut. He put his hand on Chakotay's shoulder. "Commander, I could be wrong but, personally, I think you're holding out on false hope. If it was me, I'd want to know for sure. Maybe even push the point. Make a move. I mean, what's the worst case scenario here? Either she's going to phaser you, or she's going to..." "Consider yourself relieved, Lieutenant!" They both jumped, startled at the sound of her voice. Inwardly, Tom wondered how long the captain might have been standing behind him, while he tried to remember the last few words of his conversation with Chakotay. SYMBOLS or more informally "Why the heck Chakotay chose Seven of Nine when, previously, he wanted to throw her out the nearest airlock" is a work of fanfiction. It sticks to canon and is an ensemble piece, but focuses on Janeway and Chakotay predominantly. Paramount and Pocket Books own everything Star Trek - no copyright breaches intended. I just took the characters out for a play. Literary agent sent most of this to Pocket Books in 1998, but they didn't want it. I have a sweet rejection letter! So it's mine now. A couple of re-writes since then to relocate it in Season 7 and add Chapter 1 and the Epilogue. Tiny Hands, Sad Eyes
Jim Kirk gets shot by an automated weapon while on an away misson. Instead of injuring or killing him, it deages him. Now Spock and McCoy have to try and fix it, all while caring for 4 year old Jim. This is made harder by the fact that he is terrified of everyone but Spock. The more they watch and listen, the more Spock and McCoy want to find Winona Kirk and make her just as afraid as she has made her son. There is a brief nudity scene in the last chapter. All characters involved in said scene are adults. There are some sexual terms used.
