"Why do you hate me so much?" I asked, desperate to know why she kept pushing me away when all I wanted was to hold her close.

"I don't hate you!" She shouted. She was glaring daggers at me but I'd finally grown immune to her medusa-like stare. "God... why are you making this so damn hard!"

"Why am I making this so hard? Why are you making this so hard? I just wanted you to..." I couldn't tell her what I really wanted. That would push her away for good. "Just... wanted to be friends."

Alin shook her head and let down her stony facade. She wasn't angry. No. Her expression was one of pain and agony.

"We can't be friends, Adler. It would hurt more if we were."

Joseph Adler wakes up in his bedroom one day to find it in shambles. Not only that, he also realises that his only company is a strange creature that doesn't want to be his friend and instead wants to suck his blood.

As Joseph learns more and more about the new world he lives in, he realises that some secrets were never meant to be unravelled.

The bus ride to the retirement home had been uneventful-the low hum of chatter, the occasional burst of laughter, and the rhythmic bumps of the road beneath the tires. The retirement home loomed at the end of the road, a grand but weathered building with ivy creeping up its stone walls. It looked peaceful enough-nurses bustling about, elderly residents chatting on the front porch, the faint scent of flowers drifting in the warm afternoon air. A normal visit. A normal trip. A normal day. That's what it was supposed to be.
