Catherine lives with her sister Grasyn -- the love of her life and her reason for existence. In a small town on the mountainside, Cat is safe. She's an athlete, she's a musician, and she's a friend. But her friends have no clue about her past and even Grasyn can't read her completely. And when Grasyn asks about the reason they aren't at all related to the people they call family, Cat shuts down completely.

Everybody goes through something, a fact of which Cat is well-aware. But it seems Cat drew the short stick -- something with which she vows never to burden Grasyn. It's also something she shares with Jamie, the new boy at her school who has trouble connecting with those around him and can't quite relax around other people. But for the first time in a long time, Catherine feels her attention shift away from Grasyn when she meets him. And Cat thinks that maybe, just maybe, he could be her bridge back to normal.
