Karla is a girl who has a stereotypical tragic backstory, her parents died, she lives with her rich aunt and had to move away from home.
Except its not normal, nor very tragic.
Karla loves living with her aunt, she's happy her parents are in a better place, and she moved back to the place she loved more. 

Jack is a boy who was an orphan from the start, was forced from his deceased foster family to move in with family friends who he doesn't like very much and barely has any friends. 

Both in Texas, Both clueless, both at a party
Being normal teenagers.
They're lives couldn't really change...
