But what if these creatures were different from what we thought they were? What would happen when one of them needs help? Seeking out the aid of a teenage boy, who is more involved in their world than he knows. When Alex wakes up in the hospital, ranting about a girl and water, he is assured that his hallucinations were a side effect to almost drowning, and he was unconscious for nearly two days. He is released from the hospital, and life seems like it should return to normal...but he's still haunted by his "hallucinations" He still knows what he saw was real. He saw a shadow at the water's edge.

Hoping to shake this human off once and for all, I twisted my body around rapidly with a plan to put my words into action. When I was on my way to push this man as deep into the floor as possible my body all of the sudden went rigid. When my body froze solid, so did my brain. It took me several seconds to get out of my trance and when I finally did, all that was running through my mind were two words. Those eyes. All of the feelings that I had been hiding for the last 160 years were now coming crashing down on me. They were literally shooting out from this human's eyes like fire. They cross paths several times, and after a meaningful first impression begin dating. Kar may not be a good guy, and he may not be honest, but he is always true. He opens to Jahe little by little, until, unfortunately, his other dangerous interests interrupt his best intentions.
