Sandra Tate is in her final weeks of cancer.  On a warm spring day in Victoria, British Columbia, a strange yet kindly old man gives her and her parents tickets for a carriage ride. The towering black carriage horse, a mysterious Puca from Ireland that came to the New World on board HMS Pandora in 1846, befriends Sandra, and introduces her to a mysterious world of hidden creatures in the parks and forests of southern Vancouver Island.
