Nylah Turner's year is off to an interesting start. She thought the most stressful thing she would have to face is the school play, she never expected her best friend's mum to publicise her new romantic relationship with him on a world renowned podcast. To make matters worse, there was never a relationship to publicise. Ryan Miller is on his way to professional athletic stardom as an extremely talented swimmer. After matching Michael Phelps' time in the 100m freestyle race at a national tryout, all eyes are on his rise to potential fame. Not only is he a talented heartthrob with a heart of gold, he also happens to have one of the most overbearing mum's in the world, which is how the world found out he was dating his best friend. Except he really wasn't. Too embarrassed to set the record straight the two decide to give the performance of a lifetime and play into the narrative. Then at the end of the first week of school they will stage a break up. If it's only for one week, what's the worst that could happen?

It's the first day of June's senior year and everything is already going wrong. Her first boyfriend and supposedly love of her life dumps her for someone else, her heart is broken and feels like it won't ever heal again and her best friend makes her join the most unnecessary club on earth to help her find new friends she most definitely does not need. Still. New chances are for new beginnings, right? Instead of falling into a deep dark pit of self pity (however tempting that may sound), all of this betrayal ends up leading her to the best friends she's ever had and the most exciting school year of her life. Oh - and a whole new fake boyfriend, to get some revenge on that idiot who dumped her. And who knows. Maybe even more.
