It was truly a depressing day.
There seemed to be no separation between the dark grey road with no apparent end and the gloomy sky where the clouds hung low. The air was tinged with a melancholy feeling, and clung to it were little particles of smoke from a factory just a few miles away from where the man was standing on the road. Even if you'd never been there before, you could tell something was out of place on this particular day.

"Strip. Now!" I aimed my weapon at him with a glare. Upon a passing light, I was granted a clearer view. Intense green eyes were on me, clenched jaw on a keen guard, and a visible scar at the curve of his left cheek. The idle look aired fearless against my warning, forcing my wary to hyperdrive. The sound of rustling ceased my staring. I watched him moving in largo. "Hurry up!" With a lopsided smirk, he started unbuttoning his coat, eyes boring holes on me. "What are you? An android rapist?" God's eye shone bright in a clear blue sky, casting warm light upon the earth, nurturing the blooming life of spring. The scents of new flowers impregnated the moist air, birds flew in the sky, people smiled and laughed. It truly was a glorious day to die. The boy with the sad gray eyes stared down at the ground, far, far below, his short dark hair blown back by the wind. His bare toes curled nervously over the edge of the building, knocking tiny bits of stone down, down, down ten stories of brick walls and dusty windows to the empty pavement below. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. Long ago, way before our time. A weary traveler left home to find new land for his family to thrive off of. Drought engulfed almost all of Elysium, called The Great Heat. The man traveled far and wide just to find a sign of life anywhere. It took him days and several hundred miles to find anything worth nourishment and care. He braved sand storms and blistering heat, his throat was dry and his feet could hardly carry him any farther. He collapsed onto the ground, his hands burning under the heat of the crackled ground. His vision blurred and mirages played with his suffering senses. His mind projected a tree into his line of vision, withering away but it's branches holding a single fruit. Besides his beliefs of it being a figment of his imagination, he crawled his way to it, bringing himself under the weak shade that it provided. He looked at the glistening purple fruit, what was it? He reached up to grab it, expecting it to fall through the image projected before him. His fingers wrapped around the fruit and he picked it from the branch. It was real! The fruit was real. He eagerly bit into the fruit and its juices trickled down his chin. He sat back and relaxed as the food nourished his body, he drank of its juices and picked out its many seeds, collecting them. He dug a deep hole until he felt moisture in the soil, planting the seeds into the ground. As it grew over time, the man used the old tree to build his home around the new one, tending to it religiously until it beared fruit. He brought his family and they lived there, planting trees and passing on the seeds for other places to spring life.
