When you are decorating a playroom, always keep safety in mind. Regardless of your child's age, safety always comes first. Even if creating a space for your teenage children.
Here are few safety tips:
1. For toddlers & young children, research safety issues - such as rough blinds, power outlets, cabinet doors, lead paint, sharp edges and plan for these in your initial design.

2. For kids, consider using soft fabric storage bags such as Telkiddo. Heavy buckets or holders are easily pulled off of the ledge & can cause serious head or bodily injuries when stores on shelves.

3. Furniture over knee height, such as cabinets, dressers and shelving, should be secure and if possible secured to the walls. Bookcases and wall tables that are top heavy can easily topple over and can cause serious injuries.

4. If you are creating a teen room with computer or television access, internet and television security is important. Install or activate parental controls.

5. Install a carbon monoxide (CO) detector. Small kids are especially susceptible to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

6. If you will be renovating the space, consider using low VOC paints and safe building materials. Organic fabrics aren't necessary, but may be something you wish to include.
