Spadające krople deszczu tłukły niemiłosiernie w i tak przemakający, pokryty strzechą dach dziewiętnastowiecznej chaty gdzieś na rosyjskim odludziu. Jego mętny wzrok lustrował cienie mieniące się za brudnym oknem, których natężenie wzrastało wraz z natężeniem wódki w żyłach. Nic nie zapowiada zmienności w tej kolejnej, monotonnej, pijackiej nocy przepełnionej pustką, samotnością i smutkiem. Jednak w pewnym momencie jeden z cieni zatańczył za oknem, pojawiwszy się na dużo dłużej od reszty, po czym zniknął zupełnie. Rozległo się pukanie do drzwi.

Life was dull, boring, and mechanical. I’ve always wondered if this would change. If something interesting will happen. I always hoped something interesting will happen. A falling meteor that would destroy half of town, an alien invasion, or even the Apocalypse. Anything, just to relieve me of this monotonous life I lead. “Urgh,” I groaned as I reached over to turn off the alarm clock that sounded like a hundred sirens in the early hours of dawn. The golden sun hasn’t come out to expel the surrounding darkness yet. I figured it would take an hour more or so for the sun to show its shining face, so I decided to eat breakfast and take a bath first.
