All of the adults die, one after the other. Gone. Done. Once their temperatures rise and the fever officially sets in, their hearts stop. Only to start again, minutes later. Once they're awake, it becomes clear that their minds have been depleted and every shred of humanity is nonexistant. It's kind of obvious by the way they try to kill you. The remaining children and teens of smalltown Brightrock, Kentucky -- the oldest of whom is only 19 -- are forced to face this strange virus head on, doing what they have to in order to survive. Did you ever imagine a day when you'd have to loot your neighborhood to look out for your own? Or, even worse, shoot your flesh-eating mother to stay alive? Things are a little different in Brightrock. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- This is BOOK #1 in the Brightrock series. I plan to create this concept into several novels, each one lasting about 10 chapters, so it doesn't get too long to read. This series will feature a various cast put in different scenarios, set behind an zombie apocalypse. If you're interested, please follow me for additional work and weekly updates on Thursdays!

"You ungrateful bitch. I keep a roof over your head, and this is the thanks I get?" "You could have killed her," I retort, trying to muster up confidence that I don't possess. "What if she goes to the cops, Dad? That bruise on her face is enough to get you arrested and charged with assault." "What? You mean when she tripped over the mess you made in the kitchen?" His smile is so wicked that it chills me to my core. "She ain't going to the cops. Hell, she'll probably be back here tomorrow." "You're a bastard," I whisper, tears filling my eyes. "No wonder Mom left! She probably couldn't bear to spend another second with-" I'm pushed to the floor. I scramble backwards as he approaches me, his cheeks scarlet with rage, his pupils the size of needle points. In fourteen years, I've never seen him this mad. I've really done it this time. -------------------- (COMPLETED) Life is hard when nowhere feels like home. For Layla Dodds, there is only one goal: survival.
