In the beauty crazed dystopian future of 22nd century North America, the population has increased into an unmanageable number of 2.5 billion. In the impulse to decrease the number the government has insisted that anyone who has looks rated under an eight at the age of 18 will be brutally killed and burned. After being kidnapped at 12 with her little sister Abbey 5, 17 year old Kadence has been dealing with her low scores of 5 and 6. Unable to afford the plastic surgery open to her due to money loss Kay has to rely on miracles to get through the final ratings alive. With one year left she runs away with her little sister Abbey Fleeing from the only place she knows and the swarm of surgically perfected faces, Kadence sets of on a long journey where she stumbles into 19 year old Aiden, a rough, rebellious runaway who lives in the ugly (the part of America in hiding of the ratings). In time they grow closer. And so does the force. What happens when the ugly is founded and no one can escape...

When the system glitches and she is able to cry for the first time ever, she feels tricked and robbed by the government, becomes inspired and develops a revolutionary plan to break the system so people can feel once again, and her family worries for her life. The only thing she has to worry about is the exposure squads: groups of vigilantes who protect themselves by hunting the beautiful people in hiding. When the squads find out about the doctor, he runs. Kennedy is good at her work, but she can't do it alone. She takes on an assistant she doesn't realize he has secrets in his past, secrets that start to attract attention. With the squads getting closer she will have to make choices about how much she is willing to risk. If she stops working, her clients be in danger. It would be easy for Evita to forget about where the gun came from and let her life return to normal, but its mysterious appearance won't stop nagging at her. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. At the age of 5 she is gifted to the the prince Dival on his 16th birthday. Over the years with her on a leash beside him he grows to love the young girl but his father a cruel king punishes her whenever the prince is out of sight. On one such day the king sends her to be adjusted, a cruel way in which emotion is stripped to improve behaviour except Ari has never had bad behaviour. Fortunately for Ari the car is ambushed by rebels to the crown.Complete

When you're marked you have two choices; fight or die. Nance lives in the past, literally. Her city is a recreation of early twenty-first century society. To the outside world they're experiments, just rats running around a maze. In an impoverished future world, the city seems to be their only chance of finding where they went wrong, or so they say. Nance doesn't know the real purpose of her home, and she doesn't care. All she sees are the one hundred teenagers, just like her, who are killed every year in the barbaric ritual known as the marking. They tattoo your face and pit you against your peers, against the city. Nance doesn't know why, but it doesn't matter, because she's sixteen and it's her turn to be marked. **So I decided to replace the original story with the rewrite because they are pretty much exactly the same.
