So Arthur loves Marlene, but Marlene is Merlin, but Merlin doesn't know that. How did this come to be? Simple, Arthur chickened out and lied.
Now Merlin thinks that Arthur's in love and spends time with her when Arthur's in love with him and is instead finding their reincarnated friends and family that actually remember.
