Upon every maiden's 18th birthday, they are presented with a knight. The knight's have been training exclusively their entire lives to protect and serve their maiden upon their own 18th birthday. It is not common tradition throughout the land, but is respected as one of the most sacred of bond's that one can form. One of trust, friendship, and respect for one another.
