People have often told me that I am charismatic and clever. Many say I'm prideful while some tell me I am arrogant. A cluster of people claim that I am kind and some go as far to call me generous. While all of these can argued upon, I have one trait that will never be questioned again; I do not like owing people debts. I absolutely detest it. I will repay someone's service. Even if that means lying to my crew, abandoning my ship, joining a traveling show, sneaking into a palace, sneaking out of said palace, literally traveling across the entire country of Spain, accidentally discovering that I was in love, and almost dying several times in the process, I will repay the debt I owe.

Historical romance about a human girl and a merman. [Preview] A long arm snaked around her waist, pulling her through the current. Adrenaline hit her like a crushing force, and she saw whisps of white silk clouding around her vision. She began to struggle vehemently, still holding onto her sketchpad as tightly as possible. She raised the book above her head and beat it against the iron body, dragging her deeper. She felt her sketchpad suddenly get snatched out of her hand. The flash of white crossed in front of her and two eyes, dark as death, watched her so closely that she could see nothing else. Her chest throbbed with the desperate need to breathe, and she began to struggle again, thrashing her limbs as much as she possibly could to unleash herself from the creature's locked hold. Powerless, exhausted, and drowning, Victoria's eyes fought to remain open as she ceased fighting her fate and grew still. The pain in her chest seemed to pulsate throughout her entire body, and she felt the darkness coming on, but she ignored it as she remained listelessly suspended in the deep abyss. The black eyes remained fixated on her face as if she were the only thing that existed. Her eyes fluttered closed, but not before she saw the obsidion depths of the creature's eyes swirl and turn to a dark shade of sapphire blue. Trust is something that has never come easy to Faye Mercer. After losing her birth mother and sister at barely a year old, she learned that life is precious. As she got older, however, she realized that absolute, lasting trust comes at a steep price. After being adopted by the Solomons, she finally felt able to let her guard down and reassured that she would never be abandoned again. Right after her 17th birthday, she started having strange dreams of being surrounded by mermaids begging her to come home. Now, five years later, she has reluctantly settled into her role as a Siren, though her past actions still haunt her. She's tried so hard to distance herself from them at her peril. The only good thing she can say that has come out of it is that she met a caring, kind merman who swore he'd never leave her. After her oldest friend is dealt a heartbreaking realization, Faye reevaluates her morals. When the reappearance of the Lost Soul Pendant threatens the lives of everyone she loves and cares about, Faye will have to decide where her trust lies: with the family who'd gratefully accepted her or the so-called family that she'd been thrust into? Read to find out.
