The good get a harmony, the great will get a melody, but only the best will become, and stay, a solo in Ebony's life. Ebony herself is section leader of a boisterous tangle of trumpets and she's not about to deal with someone who can't keep up.

Around April a sign-up sheet for Marching Band shows up on her doorstep. Signing up, she doesn't realize what she has gotten herself into.
