I walk away, my cheeks heating a bit.

-Hey, Kate?

I stop, my heart thumping hard against my rib cage. I slowly turn around.

-Yes?

-I didn't even get a thank you for my chivalrous act! Knights usually get a kiss from their damsel in distress once they've rescued them.

Without thinking twice - because I know I won't work up enough courage - I return to where he is still standing and tiptoe to kiss him lightly on the cheek and add, a smile in the voice:

-Thanks. You truly are my knight in shinning armor.

I turn around and promptly leave, blushing so hard and not once looking back. I don't know if I'd only imagined it but I think I actually saw the very one cheek I just kissed redenning before I run away.

You nearly think that your immortal because the end is so far away from now. It isn't that bad to procrastinate a bit because you would have plenty of time to do it tomorrow. All those convictions, all those things we all take for granted. I don't think those things anymore.

When Kate learned that she got leukemia she taught that it was the end. But is it? Will love and friendship be enough to save her?

""Kitten, you're worried about something, and you cannae lie. You're picking at your hands and looking around to clean up my room. Unlucky for you, my room is very clean," he said, "Now what are you worrying about so much?" I stopped picking at my cuticles. It was kind of weird that he could see me doing something and read me like a book before I could even realize I was doing it. I felt my heart pound in my chest. "Well, it's just this whole pretending to date you thing," I shrugged, "How far do we have to take it? Do we have to do it in front of our friends? Do we have to do it in public because obviously we ran into Olivia today and we weren't planning on it. Oh shit, what if she sees you with another girl? I mean, what would happen then? What if she sees me talking to another guy? How long is this going to go on? What if we have to kiss in front of Olivia? I mean, it's not that I don't want to kiss you but--" I rambled on nervously. Iain smirked and walked towards me, and the next thing I knew, his lips were on mine, and we were kissing." When Kit's older brother, Ben, finally makes it with the girl he's been crushing on for four years, only to find out she's wary of family, he lies and calls his baby sister his best friend's girlfriend, turning everyone's life upside down. While Kit's struggling with the impending doom of college and parents that could divorce at any second, she's also juggling a fake relationship with her brother's hot best friend, Iain. As if that weren't complicated enough, a chemistry sparks between Iain, igniting flames and destroying the crumbling world around them. RATED M for drug and alcohol use and sexual themes

... that changes everything Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. As I transcribe it here, I have tried to update it a bit and give the characters/story more depth than what I had when I was younger. Hopefully it all gets pulled together!
