Rachel has been dreading her temporary transfer to Duel Academia since the day she realized she was being chosen to go.
Motivated only by having her long-time friend, Jim "Crocodile" Cook beside her, she travels from South Academy to face her worst fears: Seeing the destroyer from her dreams, Judai Yuki, and seeing a childhood friend who she feels abandoned her after countless years. Rachel struggles to keep herself from unraveling, but as the sinister secrets behind the rough Professor Cobra and his "death-belts" begin to unfold, she might be torn apart at the seams only days after she sets foot on the island.
Masa Kaiba, on the other hand, has been awaiting Rachel's arrival with baited breath.
With no interest in the other duelists approaching the island, Masa cannot wait to settle the score with her rival - and not just because of a duel. Trying to shield her past from Jaden while being dragged into wicked plots proves difficult for her, especially when it's discovered that she's the final piece to a long-unsolved puzzle...

"The Butterfly's Kiss" is a rewrite of a previous story I'd written when I was about 17 or 18. I really, really sucked at writing, but hey, four years passed, so I have faith in myself and my abilities.

The rain grew dense and he felt as if ice cubes were falling on his neck and back. The tree tried its hardest to protect the boy, but droplets flew past soaked branches. He reasoned that this must be someone telling him that nothing can help him now. He closed his eyes and accepted it all. The cold, the pain, the wind on his face, hell, even the migraine growing louder in his skull... But the sound of strong footsteps is not one he expected.
