Garth McLaine, Arzt, erfolgreich und einbeinig. Das ist wohl die schnellste Beschreibung von ihm, die man ihm verpassen konnte. Mit seinem Handicap hält nie lange eine Beziehung, immer wenn es anfängt auf intimere Dinge hinaus zu laufen, ergreifen seine Partnerinnen die Flucht. Und auch in seinem Beruf sieht es nicht so ganz rosig aus wie in seiner Beschreibung, er ist nämlich lediglich Assistentsarzt. 
Als ihm wieder mal eine hübsche Frau davon läuft und sogar die Patienten anfangen Flucht vor ihm zu ergreifen, tritt wie vom Himmel gefallen ER in sein Leben. Und als hätte das Leben nicht erschreckender sein können, hält es ganz neue Seiten vor ihm vor.
