The trick or treat tradition wasn't carried out in the small town of Pine City. The legend happened long ago, it tells of a young girl who misfortunately wandered out of her house and disappeared. Her broken body was found days later by a hunting group. But what really frightened people was the note attached to her forehead. It read:

DON'T COME OUT AFTER DARK ON OCTOBER 31, UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE.

No one ever went outside on Halloween night after that day. Things begin to change when fourteen year old Cassie Mason moves into the quiet town. She meets three odd friends who she learns to love.
