My blood runs cold when we hear something that sounds like a teenager. Definitely a girl, but it's muffled like she's gagged. The sobbing in contrast to the otherwise dead silence of the room sends chills up my spine.

"What do you think it is?" Jess whispers. She reaches the bottom of the steps and suddenly gasps, backing up into the wall. I hurry down the last few steps and stop short at the sight before me.
