For as long as anyone can remember, humans have always been obsessed with love. Love, trust, safety, security. Companionship. Philosophers young and old from the present to centuries ago pondered why so many of us seek such an unconditional and deep attachment to another. While monogamy has proven not to work for everyone and some enjoy their polyamorous relationships, there are still many who enjoy the thought of having their one and only. Many with the motto: "While no one is completely different, no one is exactly the same." We can even return to Plato's Symposium, where Socrates discusses how the Greek Titan Prometheus made humans out of mud and asked Athena to breathe life into them. Socrates goes onto say that humans originally came in twos, with round bodies and heads mended together back to back. They had two arms and two legs each. Double was their might and speed. They came in three sexes: men, women, and man and woman. It wasn't the humans began to rise against the Gods, tired of being used as sacrifices, were separated by Zeus, and had the sexes rearrange in the image of Gods. He had them adjusted accordingly so that men and women could marry and reproduce together to build their own families. This mechanism for a long time kept humans happy and they returned to worshiping the Gods once more. Because of this particular origin, however, it is said that people who are searching for their soulmate are really searching for their other half.
