Life isn't life until you find a reason to live it; of course it's only that much harder if you don't have a life to begin with.
Karmen Escamacilla is a vampire, a Vlak to be exact. She's one predator left in a world full of billions. The human race doesn't come out of hideout and apparently they're harder to find then Karmen originally thought -although that was before she wound up captive.
Her life wasn't really what she imagined after that and suddenly she doesn't know who's team she's on -not that she was in a team to begin with. But she's an advantage everybody wants and an advantage that some are willing to die for.
