"Why in the name of God are you dressed like that? Are you perhaps carrying a bomb or something?" I asked.

Instead of rolling her eyes at me, or raising her eyebrows, or giving me the finger, or doing anything that would show her disapproval, She laughed.

She laughed. Just like that.

Her laugh was so breathtakingly beautiful. I instantly thought Jesus. This girl needs to be mine! Upon hearing it.

"No. I'm not carrying a bomb. And I'm dressed like this because I'm Muslim. And because I like being dressed like this." She answered.

"Oh really? Muslim? Where'd you come from then?" I'd asked.

"Umm from Sacramento , California ?"

I'd arched an eyebrow at her reply. "No. Like seriously where do you come from? Is it Saudi Arabia? Egypt? Syria? Where?"

This time, she really did roll her eyes. "Dude. I'm American. Born and raised. I've lived here my entire life. I know no other place than this."

"Wow. You just said dude guess that makes you American." I'd muttered under my breath.

"Come again?" She retorted.

"Nothing." I shrugged.

"Sir you do know that I can report you for this right?" She'd asked, cocking her head to the side and smiling a little.

"Names Adam. Nice meeting you Eve. Let's get along."

She burst out laughing. "That's so lame you know. My names not Eve, and I don't think I'll ever be your Eve , Adam."

Her heart was beating so fast and her stomach ached so bad. She knew this was it, this was her fate being sealed. " Zhulfah Bint Ilyas? " It would be weird to ask the Imam a question like " Hey look. There was a really nice old friend of my dad's pestering me to be his third wife and I didn't want to go to Ogbomosho and his proposal came along and everything kinda rushed from there, so does that mean I was in my sane mind when I said...yes?" Surely some level of insanity meant she wasn't sure, right? Must the question be a yes or no answer? Can't it just be a maybe? Something along the lines of ' maybe I'll marry him 'cuz my heart is kinda telling me to but my brain's answer isn't forthcoming?' Wait...does that even make any sense? " Zhulfah Bint Ilyas? " She hadn't had breakfast but she felt like she downed a whole packet of laxatives with the way her stomach danced weirdly. " Zhulfah... " " Yes! Yes! Yes! I do! I do!" She said a bit too loudly into the mic, and was instantly filled with regret. She heard her best friend chuckle lightly behind her and she wanted nothing more than to give her a good beating. She glanced over at her husband to be in a few minutes, and her face heated up when she caught him smiling amusingly. " I mean", She cleared her throat. " I do...accept him as...as..my husband." " Well, I think I'll have to speed up the event and legalize these two", The Imam joked and the whole congregation burst into laughter. Zhulfah's face warmed up several degrees, and she was so sure her face would be burnt before the end of that day with the way she was blushing to a severe degree. The Imam was still laughing, and she knew it won't look like a joke much longer if she had a scissors to his beard.

Guilted: Wars Against The Past (Editing)

49 parts Complete

The things I knew that were once unethical, were bound to be saintly. The dreams I dreamt once upon a time, seemed to be an epitome of nightmares. The heart I thought I stole long ago, always belonged to someone else. The crimes I have committed all my life, became a handful of lessons that I ought to learn. The world I looked up to once, became a mortal enemy of mine. The family I thought would disown me, fought my battles for me. The life I never imagined I'd live, sadly it became a life I'd rather live than die. Lastly, the guilt I carried in me for the each and every second of my living, was a poison spreading and gradually banishing everything around me. Clearly, I was bounded by the past! Never have I imagined for the galaxy of guilt in me to steadily transform into a matter of great; Love. No, it wasn't for my dead sister, or for the woman I once claimed to love, or for my money-grubbing father, or even for the woman who was destined for me. Majestically, it was for Someone who I never ever thought it would be for; My Maker. Well, it's mind-blowing how the ugliest of matters bring out the most beautiful of articles! -Guilt is a gift from Allah, warning you that what you are doing is violating your soul.- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Started: 22/12/2017, 7:15 pm.
