After a quickly mutating virus ravages the planet, only those on the ocean survived and the high seas are home to what's left of the human population.

Days before the virus spread the Atlas, the largest cruise ship in the world, set out on its maiden voyage. Among its passengers of rich, semi-famous, and elite is Rick Harvard. An FBI agent originally put on board to babysit a US Senator, Rick now finds himself in charge of the security and safety of what might be the largest civilian population alive on the planet.

A globe away in the warm waters of the Caribbean, Dr. Daniel Cove launched with his only friend (and Captain) and a new research assistant to continue his life-long study of Humpback whales. And while the Atlas is concerned with figuring out how to feed seven hundred people, the fact that he's unable to go back to land is Dan's dream come true.
