Ava is part of the secret that Darwin never shared. She is one of the Chimaera. Seemingly human, but equipped with mammalian features and abilities acquired through a mutated gene.

The Chimaera are faced with a new threat. One that Darwin would never have anticipated. This threat does not come from the outside, it comes from within. Something has changed, and Chimaera are dying. The tricky thing is, no one knows why. Ava and her extended family are ordered to return to their ancestral homeland; an attempt to control and monitor this new situation. Ava must forge new alliances in this animal kingdom but stay wary of the world she knows so little about, yet is intrinsically bound to. And she must help stop the spread of this invisible disease, before everything she loves is lost forever.
