Yes the title is referencing Bo Burnham fight me. - - - John Laurens is an eighteen year old boy who has a secret. By looking at him, you'd see his straight hair and it would be an obvious assumption to think that he is straight. But the only person who knows that he isn't is John himself. In a world filled with acceptance, John feels very alone in the fact that he is gay, despite the millions of other people who with either curly or wavy hair.
