Growing up in the Capitol and directly under the watchful eyes of everyone in Panem, Briar learned to hate her home in silence. She planned in secret to run away from the Capitol with her best friend, and when Briar set her mind to something, she always got it.

When Briar finds herself running to District 12 where she knows Katniss Everdeen will be, she unexpectedly meets Gale Hawthorne, best friend of Katniss and hater of all things Capitol related, most of all Briar. But there are bigger things coming.
When Snow announces out of spite that Briar and her best friend will be participating in the Quarter Quell as the Capitol's first ever, very own tributes, Briar's world comes crashing down.
