Breaking News: Retired football player Victor Vanderbilt's son August Vanderbilt's body was found floating on Hall Lake last night. Investigators found no foul play. Victor and his family asked to keep other information from the press to mourn for August privately. Balancing school and her three part time jobs, going out for fun was the last thing Mara Hart had in mind. But when her best friend asked her to, she couldn't say no. When Mara saw August Vanderbilt at the amusement park that night, she didn't think something was wrong. He didn't see her, of course. August was known for genuinely believing that people like her doesn't deserve to even breathe the same air he does. Well, that, and he was the only son of Victor Vanderbilt. With August being 'spoiled and arrogant' and Mara being 'a socially awkward freak who talks to ghost', what would happen when Death decided to play with them? Living their completely opposite lives, one accident would change everything.

I know to you, and most other sane people, that her story might sound crazy. She saw the ghost of her dead son and ran out of her own home, screaming in her nightgown for the whole town to hear at two in the morning. The police didn't even believe her, and why should they? Probably just got spooked by a creak in the floorboards of that big mansion of hers. No one in their right mind would take her seriously. But the truth of the matter is this: Mark Needham, a journalist for his local newspaper, is probably not in his right mind. After the death of his wife eleven months and fourteen days ago, grief, isolation, and extreme sleep deprivation have worn away at every shred of his sanity. He was ready to end it all...until he witnessed the old woman screaming about her ghost. Her story may have been ridiculous to most people and even to you, but to Mark this was the first and only glimmer of hope that he's felt since his wife's passing. Could...could Annie really come back to him?
