Midge Jorbyn is eleven years old, living with her evil foster dad Joffrey. Everything seems fine from the outside, but she walks to school with the lunch she packed. Nobody knows what she's holdin' back. Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday, she hides the bruises with linen and lace. The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask, it's hard to see the pain behind the mask. Bearing the burden of a secret storm, sometimes she wishes she was never born. Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel.

Emily Wilson. Only four years old, with eyes bluer than the sky, that shined bright with life and happiness, and hair yellower than the sun. She had it all; A family with two loving parents, and a beautiful home. She baked cookies with her parents, went to parks, watched movies; it was heaven on earth for four, short years. Then came the accident. Her mother was driving to pick her up from daycare, when a semi truck crashed head on with her mom's small van. Instantly, her mother was killed, and that was when her life changed forever. Her father turned to drugs and alcohol, he blamed Emily for the death of his wife. Night after night he'd come home drunk and heartbroken, and would take his anger out on his small daughter. Tears. Pain. Fear. Grief. That's all Emily knew for two straight years.
