Remus has always battled with the monster inside him that comes out at the full moon. Ever since they discovered his secret, his friends have helped with his struggle, but they don't seem to fully understand it. He has nightmares of hurting them, of tearing them apart, but they treat the whole thing like a monthly excuse to galavant around Hogsmeade or the school grounds. And then, on a lark, Sirius reveals to a suspicious Severus Snape the means to follow Remus under the Whomping Willow. He didn't mean any real harm.
