The rays of sun melted through the leaves, casting shadows onto the forest floor. The air smelled of oak and pine, much better then the city air. It was quiet, peacefully quiet. My backpack rattled behind me as I stepped over broken pieces of wood, the leaves and sticks crackled underneath me. I looked up, pausing for a moment to take in the view, the tree branches full of leaves seemed as if it was a roof over my head.
It seemed as if fairies were dancing through the air, all around me.
I smile, for the first time in a while. I continue walking, slow at first. Birds chirped in the distance, it was strangely melodic, almost as if forming a sweet song.
"Aella, there you are" I jumped at the sudden voice, turning around with my hand covering my chest.
"You scared the hell out of me, David!" I yelled, slapping his shoulder with my free hand. He chuckles and rubs his shoulder, pretending to be hurt. Small beads of sweat formed on his forehead, his shoulder length hair up in a bun.
