Piles are generally inflamed and swollen collections of tissue in the anal region and are also described as masses or clumps of tissue within the anal canal which contain blood vessels and the adjacent or supporting tissue made up of muscle and elastic fibers. They can be of any sizes and may be internal or external. It is only when the hemorrhoid cushions expand that it causes problems and is considered abnormal or a disease.
