Keen to escape mounting gambling debts and a dead end public relations career in the states, an army veteran accepts a job doing communications for the Governor of Bermuda East. Things go south quickly after she realizes it doesn't appear on any map and that the job she has been hired for is definitely not the one she applied for. Meanwhile, the strangest people keep washing up on the shores of Bermuda East, and she begins to piece together the horrifying history of the tiny Atlantic island. Will she escape the island's impending doom, or stay and help its people win back the future of their home? 

Please note: This is a first draft, and will definitely be a bit rough, or incomplete in parts! I aim to post one chapter a week on Tuesdays ... I will probably go back and edit as I go along, though so far I have the basic narrative structure outlined.

The year is 2098 and the world has been inhabitable 3 times in the past century due to not-so-natural disasters, but the human race bounced back every time. After surviving in an underwater bunker for 15 years, 5 young adults are sent out to scope out the land to start over. Again. Three soldiers-one of them being the daughter of the Chief of North America-and two scientists began their journey feeling more or less hopeful about the road ahead. But less than 48 hours after stepping onto the surface, they realize it's not as safe as they thought and there are enemies-dead and alive-lurking in every corner. - AN: Obviously it's still a work in progress, but I'm hoping to get some comments and feedback about what I have so far so maybe I can one day publish when it's done. I also have plot lines for two other books that take place years after this one ends so it's a possible trilogy! Over the Wall: A Collection of Short Stories (NaNoWriMo 2014) by emmernemmer

This year for NaNoWriMo, I am writing a short story anthology. It will feature thirty or so short stories (my hope is to write one per day to fulfill my 1,667 per day word requirement) about varying things. Each morning, I will randomly select a number between one and thirty and I will look at the corresponding list of first lines I will have. I will take that line and write a short story using it and then the next day I will do the process over again (some stories might relate to each other, some might not). Anyway I will edit the story for that day and post it here. It may not be posted exactly on the corresponding day, but in the end there will be thirty short stories. P.S. Although these are somewhat edited they are still rough drafts so please treat them as such.

This story began as a NaNoWriMo 2012 work, with no planning, and even less idea of plot. I learned from that experience that I am not a 'pantser' -and spent about 20 painful months trying to turn my stream-of-consciousness 3-stories-in-one into one coherent novel, following the timeline and events in the Book of Genesis. I discovered that that is not a great way to build a plot. I ended after 5 more drafts, at about 60k words. There is another draft on my blog, slightly longer, a bit more experimental. Still, the young woman can't complain too much, because in part her dream job still became a reality, even if it was in unusual and extremely dangerous circumstances for her. But everything changes the moment she meets a gallant soldier in the enemy camp, who tries in every possible way and for unknown reasons to save her life and bring her back to her native home. Betrayal of one's own will cost a soldier very much. Maybe even his own life. How will Elizabeth cope with the idea that she will never see her lover again? Will she endure the feeling of loss? Or maybe she won't care about all this at all and she will live her dream life in peace?
