Keen to escape mounting gambling debts and a dead end public relations career in the states, an army veteran accepts a job doing communications for the Governor of Bermuda East. Things go south quickly after she realizes it doesn't appear on any map and that the job she has been hired for is definitely not the one she applied for. Meanwhile, the strangest people keep washing up on the shores of Bermuda East, and she begins to piece together the horrifying history of the tiny Atlantic island. Will she escape the island's impending doom, or stay and help its people win back the future of their home? Please note: This is a first draft, and will definitely be a bit rough, or incomplete in parts! I aim to post one chapter a week on Tuesdays ... I will probably go back and edit as I go along, though so far I have the basic narrative structure outlined. I hope you enjoy and I would love to hear any feedback readers might have!

This short story is the product of a lost bet. A friend challenged me to write it and we both enjoyed it enough that I wanted to share it with all of you on WattPad. It's fun and frivolous and my first attempt at writing futuristic dystopian. The United States and its Government have fallen apart and it's up to the country's citizens to find a way to carry on. In a small, central Pennyslvania, river town a group of people have carved out a stable existence under the leadership of their Governor and his volunteer militia - the Royal Order of Knights. The only problem? Governor Kramm's daughter. Charli grew up watching (and falling in love with) her best friend as he trained to become an honored Knight and her dream has always been to be one of them. However, her father's current laws won't allow women to serve. When their community falls under attack and she risks her own life to save her father's, will it be her final sacrifice or her proving grounds?
