Soul and maka have graduated from the DWMA and now work there, known as the best weapon-meister pair to the students and other faculty there.
Soul is one of the most well known death scythes to be made.
One day, death assigns the task to kill a kishin. This kishin, however, is not the average kishin. It's not particularly difficult or dangerous, but it is rather inappropriate for a student to handle. Thus, maka and soul were called upon.

I halted as a concerning noise came from Soul's room. It sounded like a groan, or perhaps a growl.
Chalked with worry, I pulled off my kitchen apron and scurried quietly to his bedroom door.
"Soul?" I called out in a soft tone. I was answered with another groan. Maybe he hadn't heard me? I placed my hand on the metal door nob and turned it slowly, letting the door open on its own as it unlatched.
"Soul!" I nearly shouted in shock.
